Welcome to the Member Area of the Yacht Club de Monaco
Summer Cocktail
22nd June 2010
Nearly 850 society members of the Yacht Club de Monaco were present to welcome the 30 new members who were officially received by HSH Prince Albert II during the YCM’s traditional Summer Cocktail.
Among the newcomers are: His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nehayan, President of the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC), His Excellency Mr Michel Roger, Minister of State, Mr and Mrs Martin Bouygues and Mr Franciscus Petrus Heesen, owner of the prestigious shipyard which bears his name.
“It is my wish that we continue to strengthen our position as a key player in the maritime life of the Principality by developing our sports calendar and organising new international events. I take this opportunity to congratulate our society members who won races abroad and in particular those who triumphed in Cowes during the International Team Race. It is also in Cowes for the Westward Cup in early July that our Club will be associated for the first time with the New York Yacht Club and Royal Yacht Squadron. More than just a proud moment, this is real recognition accorded to us by two of the most prestigious Clubs in the world. We must continue to enhance this international presence. We already benefit from a network of around 50 clubs, either twinned or with reciprocal agreements, and this cooperation around the world is essential. I would also like to encourage you to keep on developing these exchanges which are so vital to the life of a big Club, particularly by training up our young sailors and organising sports events such as the highly successful Palermo-Montecarlo with the Circolo della Vela Sicilia,” said the Sovereign Prince Albert II, President of the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The cocktail was also an ideal occasion to make the new twinning agreement with the Clube Naval de Cascais official, in the presence of its President José Sotto Mayor Matoso and Commodore Miguel Horta.
